David Michael Maurer, ACE is a film and television editor and director based in Los Angeles.
He most recently edited Undercard (2025), a drama starring Wanda Sykes and Berto Colon, directed by Tamika Miller for Catalyst Studios, and Traces (2024), a music drama starring Pablo Schreiber, Sosie Bacon, and Rick Springfield, written and directed by Matthew Currie Holmes.
In scripted television he edited both seasons of Fantasy Island for FOX and Sony, cutting six episodes including the Season 1 and Season 2 finales. He edited the second season of Absentia for Amazon and Sony, the thriller starring Stana Katic, Patrick Heusinger, and Cara Theobold. On Sony Crackle and Amazon's StartUp he edited across Seasons 2 and 3, the crime drama starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, Mira Sorvino, Adam Brody, Edi Gathegi, and Otmara Marrero.
His feature work includes Splinter, directed by Toby Wilkins, which won six awards at Screamfest including Best Film and Best Editing, and two Sundance selections directed by Sterlin Harjo, Four Sheets to the Wind and Barking Water.
In non-fiction he was clue package editor and visual effects artist across four seasons of The Masked Singer for FOX, and edited five seasons of Whale Wars for Animal Planet, work that earned ACE Eddie Award nominations in 2011 and 2016. He edited the first season of American Idol and Seasons 1 through 5 of The Apprentice, receiving Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing in 2004 and 2005. Other credits include The Tiger King and I for Netflix, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning for Peacock, and Profiles from the Front Line for Jerry Bruckheimer and ABC.
He has also worked as a supervising editor and department head, leading post-production teams on Stars Earn Stripes, Ice Cold Gold, and Hotel Secrets & Legends.
As a director, he wrote and directed the short drama Mendo's Carousel, starring Edi Gathegi, Todd Grinnell, and Otmara Marrero, which won Best Short Film, Best Director, and Audience Award honors on the festival circuit. He directs music videos, including My Skin for Avatari, nominated for Best Alt Rock Video at the 2025 Hollywood Music in Video Awards.
Maurer is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University's film production program and a member of American Cinema Editors and the Television Academy. He is currently writing feature screenplays.
