Biography
David Michael Maurer, ACE is an Emmy-nominated and ACE Eddie Award-nominated editor and director based in Los Angeles, working in feature film and scripted television.
His recent features include Undercard (2025), a drama starring Wanda Sykes for Catalyst Studios, and Traces (2024), starring Pablo Schreiber, Sosie Bacon, and Rick Springfield. Earlier feature work includes Splinter (2008), winner of six awards at Screamfest including Best Film and Best Editing, and two Sundance selections directed by Sterlin Harjo, Four Sheets to the Wind (2007) and Barking Water (2009).
In scripted television he edited Fantasy Island (FOX/Sony) across both seasons, including the Season 1 and Season 2 finales; Absentia (Amazon/Sony), starring Stana Katic; and StartUp (Sony Crackle/Amazon), starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, and Mira Sorvino.
He wrote and directed the 2023 short drama Mendo's Carousel, starring Edi Gathegi, Todd Grinnell, and Otmara Marrero, which won Best Short Film, Best Director, and Audience Award honors on the festival circuit. He also directs music videos, including My Skin for Avatari, nominated for Best Alt Rock Video at the 2025 Hollywood Music in Video Awards.
His non-fiction credits span FOX, ABC, NBC, Netflix, Peacock, and Animal Planet, including The Masked Singer, Whale Wars, The Tiger King and I, and American Idol.
Maurer is a member of American Cinema Editors and the Television Academy. He is currently writing feature screenplays.
